Lifeguard Pharmacy was a feasibility study funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) under their Health and Social Care Delivery Research (HSDR) Programme.
The Lifeguard Pharmacy project aimed to develop and pilot a training package and service to enable community pharmacies to respond to people in danger from domestic violence or feeling suicidal. Just as a lifeguard watches swimmers for any signs of drowning, similarly this project sought to equip community pharmacy staff with the skills and resources to recognise and respond to people in danger.

The Lincoln Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) provided an independent oversight of the data management and guidance on obtaining the necessary regulatory approvals and assisted with data monitoring.
